I just recently went on a much needed vacation to Costa Rica with a couple of friends.  Before leaving I knew I would need to pack the necessities: toothbrush, swimming trunks, shoes, and t-shirts, jumprope, and Xertube resistance bands…did I say jumprope and Xertube resistance bands?

Yep!  There is no reason why you shouldn’t workout  while on vacation, especially if there is not a gym within miles of where you are staying.  The jumprope and Xertube resistance bands are easy to pack in your suitcase and provides a challenging workout for all workout levels.  I guarantee you will feel any type of 20 minute workout in high elevations such as Costa Rica.  Let me know if you want me to send you a quick Vacation Workout to focus on strength, conditioning, core, and endurance: send me a an email to chickaro@p-fit.com

SPECIAL Project Fitness bootcamp this Saturday is sponsored by Acura.  After our bootcamp workout, Acura will shuttle everyone to the National Mall for Lululemon’s Annual Yoga on the Mall.  Bring a Mat!

“In conjunction with the National Cherry Blossom Festival, Lululemon Athletica staffers are trying to gather 1,000 people to practice yoga on the Mall. The Hypnotic Gurus (a band that fuses electronic music and the sitar) will perform before and during the class. Peggy Mulqueen will lead the event.

The free class will be held at the Sylvan Theater, located at 15th Street SW and Independence Ave. Bring a yoga mat. All levels are welcome.” (Washington Post)  It will begin at 10:30 AM.  I hope you can join me and Project Fitness in this great event.

A great strength and conditioning workout with front raises, lateral raises, combined with dynamic movements involving squats and step ups. This workout also includes core and shoulder stability. Watch my shoulder routine: http://www.p-fit.com/Health.html

Project Fitness is promoting the President’s Call to Service by providing healthy lifestyle initiatives for the betterment of our community.  Project Fitness is collaborating with DC Girls on the Run (GOTR) to inspire and empower young girls through physical activity and comradery.  We encourage you to SUPPORT A GIRL TODAY!!!  http://gotrdc.org/

“Girls on the Run – DC is an affiliate council of Girls on the Run International, founded in 1996, by Molly Barker, a visionary, Ironman triathlete. Today, there are nearly 160 locations across the U.S. & Canada, with new locations added each year.  Girls on the Run combines training for a 5k (3.1 miles) event with healthy living education. We use exercise, positive reinforcement, and encouraging role models to help girls discover the confidence they need in those critical pre-teen years and beyond.” (DC GOTR)

KIWI: Tiny but mighty. This is a good source of potassium, magnesium, vitamin E & fiber. Its vitamin C content is twice that of an orange.

APPLE: An apple a day keeps the doctor away? Although an apple has a low vitamin C content, it has antioxidants & flavonoids which enhances the activity of vitamin C thereby helping to lower the risks of colon cancer, heart attack & stroke.

STRAWBERRY: Protective Fruit. Strawberries have the highest total antioxidant power among major fruits & protect the body from cancer-causing, blood vessel-clogging free radicals.

ORANGE : Sweetest medicine. Taking 2-4 oranges a day may help keep colds away, lower cholesterol, prevent & dissolve kidney stones as well as lessens the risk of colon cancer.

WATERMELON: Coolest thirst quencher. Composed of 92% water, it is also packed with a giant dose of glutathione, which helps boost our immune system. They are also a key source of lycopene — the cancer fighting oxidant. Other nutrients found in watermelon are vitamin C & Potassium.

GUAVA & PAPAYA: Top awards for vitamin C. They are the clear winners for their high vitamin C content. Guava is also rich in fiber, which helps prevent constipation. Papaya is rich in carotene; this is good for your eyes.
